Tapit is represented by three horses Perhaps the most international event of the year in horse racing, Dubai World Cup night brings together horses from all sides of the world from Australia to England and Ireland to Hong Kong with nearly everything in between. Of course with a large group of horses running from different parts of the world also comes a wide range of sires and broodmare sires. At this year’s festival, 58 different sires and 68 different broodmare sires are represented in a variety of races from a six furlong dirt sprint to a two-mile turf race. Showing the versatility of some of the bloodlines represented, some sires and damsires can be seen in both sprint and route races. Uncle Mo A day after having the most Triple Crown nomin ees of any stallion , Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie) was on top of another list when he topped all sires on the U.S. Experimental Free Handicap with 10 2-year-olds listed including the highweighted champion 2-year-old colt Nyquist. Two-year-olds must have made at least one start in graded or listed stakes company in North America to be assigned a weight with The Jockey Club listing all horses weighted at 100 or above. Nyquist was given a weight of 126 as the highest weighted 2-year-old on the list, beating out highweighted filly Songbird (Medaglia d’Oro) by one point. Overall, Uncle Mo had four of the top 50 horses on the Experimental Free Handicap, including the seventh highest rated filly in Gomo. New to the stallion ranks in 2016 is the four-time Group 1 winning stallion Muhaarar, who joins Shadwell Stud’s roster in England for a fee of £30,000 (approx. $44,147US/€40,755). Muhaarar’s promotional video The 4-year-old Oasis Dream son made his debut in May of 2014 at Doncaster, winning by four lengths. Found gave Galileo a Breeders' Cup victory While the fight with Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) at the top of Racing Post’s European Leading Sire standings was closer than his connections would have liked, at the end of 2015 it was business as usual for Galileo (Sadler’s Wells). A 10-time leading sire, last year in the Ireland and United Kingdom ranks Galileo was ahead of Invincible Spirit by £ 3,985,535 (approx. $5,888,749U.S.) at the end of the year. This year, Galileo and Dubawi had a battle at the top of both the European and Ireland/England ratings with Galileo finishing £ 1,857,752 (approx. $2,744,885U.S.) ahead of Dubawi in the latter but only £ 622,367 (approx $919,566U.S.)  ahead when factoring in all of the European prize money. An interesting addition to the U.S. stallion ranks in 2016 is the 6-year-old Teofilo son Amira’s Prince. Standing in Florida at Pleasant Acres Stallions, Amira’s Prince joins Treasure Beach (Galileo) as an Irish-bred, turf stallion at the farm.  Amira's Prince Amira’s Prince started his career in Ireland in September of 2011 when he finished fifth in his debut on yielding to soft ground at the Curragh. He wasn’t seen again until the following March but it was worth the wait for his connections with the colt finishing first by 3 ¼ lengths over eventual multiple group/graded stakes winner Speaking of Which (Invincible Spirit). From there, he hit the board in a few races in Europe before being bought by U.S. interests and transferred to trainer Bill Mott. Liam's Map is one of the more successful expensive yearlings in his group Possibly the biggest “high money” area of the commercial side of horse racing, every year yearling sales see many yearlings sold for $500,000 or more. While it is rare that horses sold for that much money will make it back on the track, researching sales and race results from some of the horses sold at the the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling and Keeneland September Yearling sales from 2010 to 2013 provided some interesting insight on where buyers may have the best bang for their buck with on-track results. For this project, all of the $1-million yearlings sold at those sales during that time frame in addition to the top five lots sold at each sale each year in the $751,000 to $999,000 and $500,000 to $750,000 ranges were looked at.
